The company writes over 17 billion dollars in policies each year and has about 10 percent of the market. The marks against this company are its insurance rates.

If you don’t qualify for some of their discounts, your quote may also be higher than many other companies.

However, if you buy other types of insurance through Allstate, your rates can be much lower. All members can also qualify for various types of loans offered only through the company.

2. Amica Mutual

This company consistently receives high ratings from its customers. It has won the JD Power Award for its consistent service for 11 years in a row.

It has been rated 5 of out 5 in customer service, financial stability, the value of product offered and ease of filing claims.

Its complaint ratio is 0.22, one of the lowest in the market.

Amica is also the oldest car insurance company, having started in 1907 in Rhode Island. The bad part is the company does not have many local offices and is particular about who they insure.

If you have a bad driving record or credit rating, they may not take you on. The company has about 2 percent of the market and is expanding to more states including Nevada.

3. State Farm

State Farm is one of the largest 25 companies of the Fortune 500. Started in 1927 to serve farmers, this company has about 18 percent of the insurance market.

Its complaint ratio is 0.28, one of the lowest in the industry.

The company writes over 30 billion dollars a year in insurance. State Farm rates 5 out of 5 with its customer service, usually handled through individual agents.

The company has increased its discounts and has an accident forgiveness program for its best clients.

Financially, the company is very stable. The company tends to have higher premiums than some companies that do not use insurance agents as a middleman to sell their policies.

4. American Family Insurance

A member of the Fortune 500, this company only insures drivers in 19 states. It also considers your credit score before writing a policy.

Most important, it is the cheapest policy in the state of Nevada.

Covering two percent of the market, the company tends to have low car insurance rates because of its mutual ownership that retains any profits back into the company.

Customer service is not quite what some of the more expensive plans provide, but the lighter pocketbook is more than worth it.

The company provides some of the best rates around to families with teenage drivers.

5. AAA Nevada

This company has been around since 1927. It is a little bit different. To obtain insurance, you must also buy a membership in the AAA Auto Club.

While you can join the club without insurance, you must belong to the club to be written for car insurance.

The auto club gives its members road towing service, travel assistance, maps, guides, DMV assistance and lists of regulations in each state.

Despite the auto club being an extra cost above the car insurance, the rates at Nevada AAA are among the lowest.

The company offers several ways to pay your policy as well as car insurance discounts.

Customer service is good but requires customers follow a set of guidelines to report claims. This accounts for their slightly higher than average complaint ratio of 0.89.

6. Progressive Insurance

Started in 1937 as a startup out of a garage, Progressive now insures about 7 percent of car insurance customers.

One of the cheapest companies in terms of policy price, this company is also one of the most innovative.

Progressive was the first to offer drive-in claim service and the first to accept payments for policies on a monthly basis. Their in-car video cam is another first in the industry.

Their complaint ratio is 0.57 which is fairly low in the industry. The one drawback with this company is their rates for younger drivers tend to be fairly high, while their rates for mature drivers are some of the lowest.

Claims that require tricky adjustments also tend to take longer than most customers would like.

7. Geico

Geico has been gaining in market share thanks to the Geeko. The company has about 9 percent of the market.

Known for excellent customer service, strong financials, and accessibility, the drawback here is the cost of the policies.

Starting out as one of the cheapest on the market, customers are often renewed at higher rates.

However, most customers report being very satisfied with this company.

Its complaint ratio is 0.48, fairly low, and the company writes over 13 billion dollars of insurance per year.

8. Mercury

Mercury car insurance offers its customers a one to one relationship with its agents. They are also often the lowest priced policy in Nevada. Customer service can be slow since it is handled by the agent on a case to case basis.

They also offer basic coverage based on the state minimums.  There are additional services that can be purchased and this is the one drawback with this company.

Customers often purchase more insurance services than they need.

Despite all of this, their complaint ratio is low at 0.33 and their market share is increasing.

The company writes over two billion dollars of insurance per year. This is a great choice for someone who needs a basic auto policy and who doesn’t have a lot of money.

9. 21st Century

21st Century offers fairly low rates and will take persons that many other companies will not insure.

The company also has customer service that often frustrates policyholders. It has a complaint ratio of .96, higher than the average of 0.77.

The company is not known for raising its policy rates over time, which may also make it cheaper than other companies.

For someone with a complicated driving past, this may be the best place to obtain insurance and not hurt the pocketbook.

10. Liberty Mutual

Liberty Mutual insures about five percent of the market. Being a mutual company, any profits are put back into the company.

The company will often insure younger drivers that may not have the best records, but charges these customers fairly high rates.

The company is also known for wanting to settle claims for the least amount of money possible.

Despite this, its average complaint ratio is 0.47, which is below the industry average.

Customers that have more than 10 years driving experience receive much-reduced rates. The company writes over seven billion dollars of policies per year.

Car insurance in Nevada can be obtained at great prices. The state offers some great choices for those on a budget. Choices are equally great for those that need or want more coverage than the basic levels required by state car insurance law.
