This vehicle’s smarts also focus on safety with collision mitigation braking, lane-keeping assisted steering, blind-spot monitoring, lane-change assist, surround-view parking camera, and night-vision assistance, which are extremely helpful safety features, but pretty basic for a Porsche.

The one-of-a-kind, Porsche InnoDrive is the true game changer. This autonomous driving system uses radar, sonar, sensors, GPS, traffic data, speed-limit recognition, terrain detection, and weather processing so the driver can just sit back and relax.

InnoDrive automatically selects optimal gears, adjusts throttle and braking pressure, regulates speed, and can even self-steer, all while analyzing the road and any upcoming obstacles up to two miles ahead.
#2 – The 2017 Porsche Panamera is Smooth
The Panamera has accomplished many firsts – not just for a Porsche, but in the history of the automobile itself.
The 2017 Panamera is the first to have a responsive rear spoiler built into the roof. With “Eco” and “Max” modes, this brilliant spoiler changes positions to improve aerodynamics, reduce noise, cool the engine and brakes, and minimize turbulence for a comfortable ride even when traveling well over 100 miles per hour.

The 2017 Panamera is also the first to use Volkswagen Group’s new MSB, modular standard drive train, which has proven to be such an incredible platform that future Bentley models will be suited with the same.

With all-wheel drive, rear-wheel steering, individual braking, double suspension in the front, four-link suspension in the back, Active Suspension Management, adjustable electronic dampers, Dynamic Chassis Control, and the improved “Comfort” and “Sport Plus” adjustable driving modes, the Panamera’s smooth drive and responsive handling seem unreal for a car of its magnitude.
#3 – The 2017 Porsche Panamera is Sharp
Let’s be honest, a Porsche doesn’t have the ability to be ugly, but the newly designed Panamera is undoubtedly prettier.

The 2017 Panamera has a modernized look with larger air intakes, thicker detail indents, LED matrix headlights, slimmer brake lights, a lowered roof, raised back, newly designed side windows, and larger wheels. It more closely resembles the 4-door 911, and no one is complaining.

Inside each of the headlights are 84 LEDs that teamed with cameras offer the unmatched ability to customize the light pattern, bend around corners, dim specific spots, and reduce glare. The wider 19-21” alloy wheels have larger rotors and more calipers and the panoramic sunroof is even bigger.
All of the vehicle’s instrument panels and touchscreens have been perfected with high-resolution, responsive digital displays. As Motor Trend reviewed said “…the functionality is as intuitive as an iPhone, the graphics even more beautifully rendered.”
The original was far from slow, but the new Panamera gives a new meaning to fast with engines ranging from a twin-turbo V-6 to a turbodiesel V8, an advanced air suspension system, auto rear wing deployment for added aerodynamic stability, the new eight-speed, dual clutch gearbox with unlimited shifting in any order, and a 154 pound lighter aluminum frame.

The Panamera 4S Diesel is the fastest diesel car in production reaching 177 mph. But, that’s slow compared to Turbo, the fastest car in the family, which reaches 190 mph with ease. With its intense 550 horsepower 4 liter V8 engine, the Panamera Turbo goes from 0-60 mph in only 3.4 seconds — just a tenth of a second shy of a McLaren F1.

Don’t let these record breakers outshine the 4S, which is fitted with a 3 liter 440 horsepower V6 engine, taking only 4.2 seconds to go 0-60 mph, all while offering extraordinary efficiency – as high as 35 miles per gallon.
#5 – The 2017 Porsche Panamera is Spacious
The newly designed 2017 Panamera looks smaller, but it’s actually 1.3 inches longer. Its suited with a responsive power-lift hatchback that has a bigger trunk than the original, a total of 17.4 cubic feet. When you effortlessly drop the back seats down, the executive trim offers an impressive 52.3 cubic feet of cargo space.

Likely the most versatile luxury vehicle in the world, the expanded Panamera family now has the acclaimed Sport Turismo which is the first Porsche to seat 5 . . . “4+1” as they call it. #6 – The 2017 Porsche Panamera is Steep
Hopefully you weren’t expecting to get all of that for a modest price. The Panamera is about as affordable as a small home.

Oh, and that excludes the $1,050 delivery, processing, and handling fee.
If you are close to being able to afford a new Porsche Panamera, first of all, congrats! Secondly, wait a few months because the most expensive models and trims always come to the U.S. first. Third, be prepared to pay more for your insurance coverage.

#7 – The 2017 Porsche Panamera is Spread
Whether you’ve saved up for years or are using your fun money to buy the Panamera, one thing’s for sure, you’ll have options! The Porsche Panamera family is impressively large with more trims than most vehicles, especially in the luxury class.

As you can see above, there are different levels of that upper crust available to you, and each of those 15 models is completely customizable . . . the options (and costs) are practically limitless.
#8 – The 2017 Porsche Panamera is Imperfect
This might come as a surprise to you, but this new Porsche isn’t perfect. No amount of money can build perfection, but Porsche puts forth a valiant effort.
Top User Complaints:
- Overly sensitive touch-controls
- Vents only adjusted by touchscreen
- Fingerprints on screens and black trim
- Lack of easier-to-use buttons and levers
- Confusing infotainment center software
- No head-up driver display
- Lacking Android Auto
Other than the above user complaints, the high price tag and late arrival to the U.S. are the other big negatives.
The first UK deliveries of the new 2017 Panamera family started in the fall of 2016. Here in the U.S., we didn’t see the new Panamera until the beginning of 2017. After all that wait we only got two higher end models, the 4S and the Turbo.
The states often don’t see the more affordable, entry-level trims until 2 years after their release, which puts us way behind in the luxury sports car world.
Overall, it’s a beauty, and Porsche is proud of their newest masterpiece.
